Very rarely do you find a band that, while new in the scheme of time, simultaneously sparks a feeling of fond and reverted sense of comfort; the kind you get when returning to the bands that were accomplices through milestones and memories. The Asheville/Brooklyn based band Hiding Places, consisting of Audrey Keelin Walsh (vox/guitar), Nicholas Byrne (vox/guitar) and Henry Cutting (drums) began in 2021 while they attended UNC’s Chapel Hill. Since forming, the band has cultivated and perfected a unique blend of hushed folk melodies, fun demeanor, and the crushing subtlety of Elephant 6 style production amongst two EPs and a handful of one off singles. As they have come to release their third EP, Lesson, Hiding Places reflects on the teetering compromises of adulthood, showing a young band embracing their imaginative and collaborative spirit to confront the duality of getting older.

Embodying all that is ethereal, BEX is the project of Rebecca Vines, living in London, England via Asheville North Carolina. Their sophomore EP, “Move It Or Lose It” was released on New England label Disposable America, while now touring all new songs for an album currently in the works. “Although the inspiration and subject matter within BEX’s music is relatable to listeners, their sound is still one that is entirely unique and recognizable to them as a band, an admirable and important quality in the world of independent music. BEX has created an essence that feels both familiar and rare all at once.” —Melted Magazine.

NC based Charlie Paso is the labor of love of Duncan McDonald and Nina Sarsozo. Spanning post rock, garage, noise, and country, their sound feels familiar, but finds new ground to cover. Through consistent regional shows and touring, the duo has adopted a boisterous live presence and are known for their energetic shows which range from euphoric, manic, harsh and sweet. Describing their first live performance post pandemic, music photographer John Guerin writes, “Hints of Pavement and Modest Mouse flutter through ‘50s pop and ‘70s psych before heading out to the ocean and riding a rolling surf back to now.” While primarily performing live for the last 7 years, Charlie Paso are currently working diligently on their second record to follow up their 2023 catharsis, “What do I have to look forward for”. Slightly serious but seriously sweet, Charlie Paso is a treat!
