Somewhere between Spiritual Sundays and Transcendental Tuesdays lies…last-minute mind-melting Mondays..
Ancestral Duo is…
…the collaboration of DC-Baltimore area multi-instrumentalists Jamal Moore and Luke Stewart. The two channel the spirit of Ancestry through structured improvisation in unique electro-acoustic meditations that aim to reach deep within one’s soul and offer a connection to the past, using the power of the present, looking toward the future.
Crowmeat/Chirstensen is…
…Crowmeat Bob on horns, Jil Christensen on keys/synth.
Jil Christensen is a musical polymath – a producer, pianist, DJ and composer living in North Carolina. Her live electronic music uses her extensive collection of field recordings that include her hydrophone recordings of the ocean; clinical recordings of the human body; to social justice demonstrations. Her improvisatory sets draw from these; her training in classical composition; other music recordings; and include the use of analog synths and original music. Christensen’s sets come together as a masterful real-time composition created through the symbiotic relationship between the arc of the music and the dance.
In addition to DJ-ing, Jil has collaborated/played with musical luminaries such as Nicky Da B, Kate Pierson, Elysian Fields, Big Freedia, Mac McCaughan, Daniel Hart and Shahzad Ismaily. Her film scores include Inshallah, Football.
Jil can also be found writing chamber music; experimenting with hydro-acoustics in the ocean; playing piano with the free jazz group Polyorchard; producing EDM; creating sonic landscapes for sound healing performances; and performing experimental electronic music concerts.
